Innogen
Founded in 2014, Innogen is a science-driven biopharmaceutical company focused on diabetes, obesity and other metabolic diseases. It is committed to developing innovative, high-quality medicines that patients can access and afford.
Our research and commercialization
Innogen developed its first medicine, Efsubaglutide Alfa Injection (Diabegone), in-house. It was approved for adult type 2 diabetes in mainland China in January 2025 and in Macao in June, and commercially launched in both markets that year. It entered mainland China’s National Reimbursement Drug List on 1 January 2026.
Efsubaglutide alfa was previously known as supaglutide. Innogen describes it as the first domestically developed humanized long-acting GLP-1 receptor agonist in China.
Innogen is studying further indications and dosing regimens for efsubaglutide alfa, including adult obesity and overweight in China and Australia, and adolescent obesity in China. It is also developing early-stage candidates for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) and other diseases, alongside new formulation technologies. These new uses and regimens remain investigational.

Innogen’s proprietary recombinant-protein platform supports continuing drug discovery and development. Its pipeline is developed in-house, with global development and commercialization rights. Its intellectual-property portfolio includes granted patents and patent applications in China and overseas.
Manufacturing and quality
A contract manufacturer produces the drug substance and finished product for efsubaglutide alfa. Innogen oversees and audits manufacturing and is responsible for product release and pharmacovigilance.
In its 3 August 2026 announcement, Innogen reported that two contract sites in China, owned and operated by an independent third party, passed ANVISA inspection against PIC/S GMP standards on 27 July and received the relevant GMP certificates.
Commercialization and international development
Innogen’s own marketing and sales team supports hospital access and medical education, working with distributors and digital healthcare platforms to extend access to its medicine.
The company is pursuing development and commercialization plans for further international markets. As of 25 August 2026, its work included adult obesity and overweight research in Australia and a registration application for efsubaglutide alfa in adult type 2 diabetes in Brazil.

Management team
Innogen’s R&D team brings together scientists and clinicians experienced in innovative medicine development, led by nationally appointed experts. Founder, Chairman and CEO Dr Qinghua Wang invented efsubaglutide alfa. His career includes a tenured professorship at the University of Toronto, standing-committee membership at the Banting and Best Diabetes Centre, a distinguished expert role at Fudan University and leadership of a major new-drug development project under China’s 13th Five-Year Plan.
